If some of the vehicles in your fleet were recently filled and exceeded their tank capacity, an exception report can be generated to notify you. The report outlines which vehicles exceeded tank capacity, how many litres were overfilled, and how much of an extra cost this is to you.

While some manufacturers advise that fuel tank capacity can vary by as much as three percent, there may be some other possibilities worth considering.

Possible reasons why your vehicle exceeded its tank capacity

  • The vehicle is fitted with a long range or additional fuel tank, and the standard fuel capacity has not been updated in our system.
  • A jerry can, or other vehicle may have also been filled at the same time, on the same fuel card.
  • Another vehicle with a larger fuel tank was filled using your vehicle's fuel card.
Actions to take if your vehicle as exceeded its tank capacity

  • If you believe that the fuel tank capacity of any of the vehicles in your fleet is incorrect or the vehicle is fitted with an additional fuel tank, let us know and we’ll update our records.
  • Contact the driver(s) of the vehicle to provide further clarity of any unexplained fuel overfill.
  • Read our blog article about getting the most out of your fuel cards.
